WOMENTECH TRAINING EVALUATION - DAY TWO

San Francisco, Feb. 2003

1. Overall, I would rate this training (Circle One):

Excellent ( 11 ) Very Good ( 14 ) Good ( 1 ) Fair ( 0 ) Poor ( 0 )

2. Overall, I would rate the WomenTech Training materials (Circle One):

Excellent ( 12 ) Very Good ( 14 ) Good ( 0 ) Fair ( 0 ) Poor ( 0 )

3. Overall, I would rate the PowerPoint (Circle One):

Excellent ( 7 ) Very Good ( 12 ) Good ( 5 ) Fair ( 1 ) Poor ( 0 )

4. Overall, I would rate the Valley of the Boys video (Circle One):

Excellent ( 12 ) Very Good ( 11 ) Good ( 2 ) Fair ( 1 ) Poor ( 0 )

5. What do you feel was BEST about this workshop?

  • Group work to solve the problems that were proposed. Networking with other high school teachers in our educational system.
  • Sheer quantity of knowledge, research based knowledge. Also, Donna is very good at staying focused on "the point" even when there are emotional issues on the table. At the same time, she is very good at maintaining relationship-connection.
  • Tips and exercises I can use.
  • Interaction with other attendees. Excellent information and resources from leader.
  • Videos. School-to-work case study discussion. Power point presentation. Very informative groups.
  • Useful strategies for recruitment and retention that we can use now.
  • Hearing form other's experiences.
  • Again. Mixture of lecture and group work.
  • The outline was great in that it kept the interest level high. Normally I get bored, tired at some point; I didn't find it that way. The interest level was very good.
  • Lots of applicable skills.
  • Case studies; discussion among us.
  • Would like to acquire the Valley of the Boys Video. Networking, being able to hear four recruitment and four retention strategies.
  • Flow was much better today. Case study are good but need more diversity.
  • Recruiting and retention ideas.
  • Video clips. Group participation.
  • Good open-ended questions! This workshop gave me "real" strategies that I can use when I get back.
  • Good use of time - lots of information as well as time to work on studies - our school's plan.
  • The best thing about this workshop is the fact that we left here with a strategic plan to implement and a retainment plan to retain our program.
  • Hearing about ideas that work!
  • Networking!
  • The exchange and ideas shared by group. The presenter was a good facilitator, took in the ideas of attendees, assessed knowledge prior to event, evenkeeled (does not come off as an extreme feminist).
  • Got many new ideas. What others are doing.
  • Format of video, discussion, case studies, group work.

6. What do you feel would IMPROVE this workshop?

  • A follow-up workshop.
  • Less time spent of the case studies. We finished 15-20 minutes early both days. Then we could spend more time on the employer and the career information case studies.
  • At this point I can't imagine.
  • ResouRce store - would love to be able to look at (hands on) some resources and take them home. How about a mini-vendor fair?
  • Maybe too much emphasis on trades, for me, not enough on more professional areas or science research, upper level science and tech. But all was excellent!
  • Do let people introduce themselves at some point (maybe just before lunch) on the first day, especially when there are people from other states. (Briefly: name, title, institution, City, State only).
  • Some projectors allow you to "run" the TV/VCR through - it would be easier to see the video if it had bee projected larger onto the screen.
  • More time - meet from 8 to 5 to get a little more time in.
  • Old dated data in Powerpoint lacks credibility and validity. More emphasis on College to workplace integration. More diversified case study.
  • Powerpoint presentation - include images
  • Shorter. Less costly
" Have sharing in small groups "best practices". This group has a lot of experience. REAL group scenarios in addition to structured scenarios. After each hour, have a 10 minute break.
  • We need more frequent breaks!
  • More participation activities. More case studies to break up the lecture portions.
  • None.
  • The '93 and '95 data is old by tech timeline (other that showing growth or change in Numbers).
  • Case studies need to be more varied as strategies. Would not be similar but different so we could become familiar with other strategies
  • Nothing.

7. Do you feel better equipped to retain women in trades, technology & science classes and related occupations?

Yes ( 24 ) No ( 1 ) Maybe ( 1 )

8. Do you feel better equipped to retain women in IT classes and related occupations

Yes ( 24 ) No ( 0 ) Maybe ( 1 )

9. Would you recommend this workshop to your colleagues?

Yes ( 24 ) No ( 0 ) Maybe ( 2 )

10. Do you feel better equipped to train others?

Yes ( 20 ) No ( 0 ) Maybe ( 6 )

11. Additional comments? (on back)

  • Thanks Donna! Keep up the excellent pioneering and instruction!
  • Donna - you are a fantastic trainer! Keep up the good work! Pleasure to meet you. Thank you so much - this was inspirational for me to carry out my technology consulting work.
  • I especially appreciated the following closely to the agenda timewise and the facilitator's skill at keeping everyone on task. Great job.
  • Valley of the Boys video should be prefaced with a few facts that conference attendees may not be aware of: a) software developers are often under unrealistic deadlines and milestones b) Boy cultures are often benign - they are unaware of any potential insensitivity c) Some women can also be overly sensitive to situations.
  • Conference well worth expense and time. Excellent with time management.
  • Very good. I left this workshop feeling very knowledgeable. The people I met here are very helpful and I am looking forward to working with them.
  • This session inspires me to help level the playing field for our secondary students.
  • Thank you for opening my eyes to this very important issue.
  • I would like to keep in touch with you. I feel strongly that we as instructors and dept. chairs also need mentoring as we continue to work with males in our workplaces, etc. Thank you Donna, I have learned a lot from your expertise.
  • A good ideas to spend al little time actually showing us the resource when you refer to it. Several resources were mentioned as being in our books but I don't know where they are or if I'll even recognize them as that specific resource when I finally do find them.
