WOMENTECH TRAINING EVALUATION - DAY ONE

San Francisco, Feb. 2001

1. Overall, I would rate this training (Circle One):

Excellent ( 10 ) Very Good ( 12 ) Good ( 5 ) Fair ( 3 ) Poor ( 0 )

2. What do you feel was BEST about this workshop?

  • Triggered ideas.
  • PowerPoint presentation
  • The variety of people attending the workshop
  • Info on IT & Girl Games
  • Being with others in my field addressing these issues
  • The various levels of using diversity
  • Sharing
  • Groups and bouncing ideas off each other
  • Activities where we could brainstorm solutions for recruitment
  • I got some great ideas for recruitment of non-trad students
  • Small group activity
  • PP presentation, interacting with groups and others, videos, manuals. It was all great!
  • Talking & getting new ideas
  • Sharing ideas
  • Lots of different ideas for many levels & areas
  • Information on recruitment, ideas in the slides
  • Getting professionals together to "network" about some of the same issues, topics & programs across the US!!
  • Awareness & resources
  • Continual interaction. Sharing with colleagues. Varying presentations
  • Your statistics & group activities where we could share our ideas
  • Your ideas / strategies. Your discussion was interesting
  • Style of presentation
  • The handouts
  • Group activities, hearing from colleagues
  • Materials received
  • Learning about low cost recruitment strategies
  • Information regarding IT & stats on women
  • The games
  • Working with colleagues
  • Information, numbers, practical information in other projects, group sharing

3. What do you feel would IMPROVE this workshop?

  • Possibly provide time for people or teams to meet and plan.
  • More statistics on IT when available.
  • Seating in the room needs to avoid having people with backs to the speaker.
  • More interaction & movement, especially in the morning. There is too much time devoted to talking via presentation - ie. Cisco best practices could be summarized and referenced.
  • Lunch.
  • Reduce PowerPoint lecture - more discussion.
  • Move things along faster & provide time to interact with each other.
  • Start on time; end on time. Less references to national studies all the time.
  • Condense some of the information that is of the same topics, eg. Too long for the practice sites examples.
  • Two afternoon breaks - a lot of info to assimilate.
  • Way too long!
  • Don't read the Cisco profile - boring - and I can read - a summary or recap would be adequate. Showing the websites was relatively worthwhile - too small to see - just give URLs.
  • End at 4pm.
  • Less talk about IT & Cisco. More talk about other trades & blocks in their recruitment to be overcome.
  • Update research studies cited. Cite source on slide of studies form which numbers and %s come from.
  • Having a "stretch" break (without leaving the room).
  • Nothing so far.
  • More hands on, more focus.
  • A few more short breaks - a bit of music.

4. Do you feel better equipped to recruit women to trades, technology & science classes and related occupations?

Yes ( 22 ) No ( 0 ) Maybe ( 8 )

5. Do you feel better equipped to recruit women to IT classes and related occupations?

Yes ( 23 ) No ( 6 ) Maybe ( 1 )

6. Would you recommend this workshop to your colleagues?

Yes ( 19 ) No ( 2 ) Maybe ( 9 )

7. Additional comments? (on back)

  • This workshop has a hands-on view & working guides and lots of group interaction.
  • My concerns for reaching out to students has been reinforced by this first day of training. We honestly feel that it is an overwhelming task to single-handedly recruit women in tech (we need a staff of 50!). But I will pursue recruitment/retention with these fantastic/assertive tools that were provided today. Can't wait until tomorrow! Thanks!
  • The workshop is good. I am interested in generating a basic workshop outline before I leave; to get ideas in what things work well with convincing administrators in the value and methods. Would like to hear more "solutions for the parents" (although I realize this is a tough nut to crack). I personally feel (at least in our area) that the parents stereotype is "the" major obstacle to overcome. In reference to #4, 5 & 6 I would probably recommend, but I want to work through a outcome of how I would give a statewide workshop to vocational center directors.
  • Some good info - some of it drawn out and too long. Great food & snacks.
  • Have the TV & VCR on a taller stand or a larger screen TV. Include lunch on location.
  • Thank you for doing this kind of work the information is important and your passion for sharing is terrific. Thank you.
  • Great job Donna. What a wealth of resources you are. I gathered a lot of suggestions for creative methods in presentation of topics. I enjoyed sharing most of all. You are a wonderful presenter - interesting and very easy to listen to! Great job! Not use to sitting so long.
