FAQS

Use the Tools of the Trade—Inside the Welder's Toolbox DVD and accompanying instructor’s guide to increase your female (and male!) students’ knowledge of basic tools by demonstrating their use, while giving context to the field in general.

Women tend to have less informal tool-use experience outside of the classroom and therefore find it more difficult to identify tools when they enter the trades. This is increasingly true for males and instructors have reported positive results in both their male and female students after demonstrating tool-use in their classrooms. With this video, women (and men) can not only see how the tools look, but also view their applications.

In general, women do better when they see technology modeled, then repeat the steps themselves through imitative learning. This video will show your students exactly how each tool is used so that they will be able to use them properly on their own. Additionally, research shows that want to know how the technology will be used and they are more likely to stay in a class where that information is given upfront. This series includes not only examples of tool use, but also contextual applications of each tool and a bigger picture of the industry itself, including potential career options.
