  • Recruiting ideas in general.
  • Generating new ideas & getting away from the traditional ways.
  • New ideas on recruitment
  • Seeing ideas on other agencies' websites.
  • Receiving new website recruitment ideas.
  • Comparing recruitment notes with the other people in the class.
  • Study groups
  • Practical application portion, class size is very manageable.
  • Class make-up discussion, materials provided.
  • Written material
  • Interacting with other participants.
  • Networking, sharing ideas & strategies.
  • All the opportunity to discuss strategies in groups. The class allows a lot of time for Q & A. Also, the class provides a lot of simple, easily implemented ideas for recruitment.
  • Ideas & strategies, group input.
  • New perspective - ideas that can be implemented.
  • Recruitment strategies and awareness.

8. What do you feel would IMPROVE this workshop?

  • Frequent breaks
  • Have a variety of speakers; not just one person.
  • Focus on recruiting and retaining.
  • Statistics seem unrealistic, strategies seem idealistic.
  • More Mrs. Fields cookies.
  • No thoughts on improvement, it is very well structured.
  • Great as it is.
  • More advanced techniques for recruiting women.
  • Have presenters from other ethnic groups, have presenters with prior police experience.
  • More cookies and afternoon coffee!
  • I'm impressed as is.
  • Obviously not all concepts can be utilized (ie. Money?)
  • So far it's the best I've attended. Very organized and materials are excellent.

9. Additional comments?

  • Great Day!
  • At first I wasn't too sure about the case study - but it was a great opportunity to network and work up a strategy similar to our own department.
  • Excellent, happy to be here.
  • Good job!

4. What do you feel was BEST about this workshop?

  • It was good that we covered strategies for all Department sizes. I have something tangible to bring to my chief to effect real change.
  • Group discussions, group input. Learning about successes and failures of various departments.
  • Group discussions/case studies
  • Sharing of information. Receiving options and suggestions on things to try and do.
  • The information - from the program and networking with other agencies
  • Assessment tools and interaction.
  • Selection tools - very appropriate. I look forward to using the assessment tools.
  • The exchanging of ideas with other agencies - Donna has the right demeanor and knowledge in order to get the message of this seminar out. Great job!
  • Practical working groups and application of ideas that were presented.
  • The network and resources.
  • Retention issues
  • The new innovative ways to recruit women to law enforcement, specifically utilizing the web.
  • Networking with other agencies.
  • Interactions of all of the class participants from across the country.
  • Putting the recruitment plan and retention plan for my department down in writing.

5. What do you feel would IMPROVE this workshop?

  • The suggestion about bringing our own agencies pamphlets and recruiting materials would be helpful.
  • To bring promotional material to compare make suggestions, improvements.
  • Include information on "how to encourage/prepare eligible women for promotion."
  • I have no suggestions because the workshop was put together and presented very well.
  • Have participants bring what they have already for posters, web (laptop), brochures, etc. that would be a good way to get ideas - Even if it's just on breaks. Maybe encourage bringing extras (if feasible), so others can take back examples to their agencies.
  • Given the make up of our organization, the information about the 'academy' was not as useful, however, I will forward components to the appropriate department.
  • Additional break periods.
  • Affording each agency attending, the opportunity to share their recruiting efforts. What has worked and what hasn't worked for them.
  • Have it in San Francisco.

Yes ( 16 ) No ( 0 ) Maybe ( 2 )

7. Do you feel better equipped to retain women in the Academy?

Yes ( 14 ) No ( 1 ) Maybe ( 0 )

8. Would you recommend day 2 of this workshop to your colleagues?

Yes ( 17 ) No ( 0 ) Maybe ( 0 )

9. Additional comments? (on back)

  • I've thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and have learned that although we are ahead of many departments, we can still make improvements and enhance our recruiting and selection process. Thanks
  • Well worth it.
  • Thanks for your work, Donna! I'm anxious and excited to do some things! If you have other fish & game or natural resources attendees, please feel free to give them my info or could you share that info with me? I'd like to contact those folks and share ideas since some of that we need to do is on a little different "angle."
  • Excellent sharing of information workshop! I will begin the process of recruiting women to policing more progressively.
  • A varied presentation style would have been beneficial; the presenter often time spoke in a 'monotone' which was difficult to listen to. The information was important & exciting, but presentation is everything! *Important: Participants should be encouraged to bring examples of their best principles and best policies to share with other departments.
